Each day during Advent, we will post some sort of reflection having to do with waiting, anticipation, hope. Each one will be different, each one a chance to pause and take a breath during this busy season.
Anthony Valley composed this music (click below to play) for a video created for the new Mobilize class at Fellowship North. The video deals with the issue of white privilege.
For Anthony, the process of making this music and thinking about current racial issues is connected to waiting:
Waiting… I’m waiting for the day that my inclusion in societal, academic, business, and faith communities is not overshadowed by the color of my skin. Maybe someday my children or their children will live in a world with experiences far different my mine. Maybe in their world, achievement is not tainted by accusations of leaving one’s roots, being helped by affirmative action, or rising above the mediocracy of an inferior race. Maybe in their world, the content of their character will actually matter more than their color. Until then, I’m waiting for the day that the community of faith will live in His love and level the playing field.

Today’s music is by Anthony Valley:
Although I’ve only been at Fellowship North for a little under three years, this loving band of believers has enriched my life. I’ve experienced the love of Christ and the church by the authenticity of genuine relationships, the freedom of transparency, and the commitment to triumph over tragedy. I met my wife Stacey here and we are the parents of three wonderful girls.
