Last Sunday, during Faith In Action, a team went to a local prison facility for non-violent offenders. This is the same prison that we’ve visited before, and whose choir has come and sung for us. This time, members of the drama team went along to perform the piece we did recently in church (You know, the one where Russell played Jesus…). A worship team also went along and led music, Harold spoke, and others went along just to talk with the inmates. One inmate appreciated the visit so much that he wrote us a letter. Here’s what he had to say:
October 18
Dear Church:
I’m writing to let you guys know that I’m going to try to come to y’alls church. I really liked y’alls service this morning here at DCC. I liked the drama group also. I’ve never really seen any drama classes perform before but I really liked it and how it shows the love of God for his lost sheep.
I’m 19 years old, I’m from Stuttgart, AR and I have been locked up since March 20, 2009. I just turned 19 on Oct 8. I’m ashamed of the way I’ve been living my life. I’ve not been a drug addict or nothing like that. I’ve just broken into stuff in the past and was working for Satan and didn’t even know it, but since I’ve been locked up it has brung me closer to God, a lot closer to Him. I’ve been learning a little bit about Hebrews 6:1-3. I hope to one day become a preacher and minister to the ones who do not know Christ.
Since I’ve been here, I met one guy who doesn’t believe. I’ve been teaching him about the bible. I got him to come to church with me here and since then he has accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and Savior. He continues to ask me to help him learn about Jesus and other things in the bible. We just read the parable in Mark about the sower and the seeds. And how the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. When it’s sown it’s smaller than any seed in the world and how when it grows up it is taller than any others.
I’ve committed so many crimes in my life and now I’m ready to turn my life over to him.
Again, tell the ones in the drama club I really appreciate their scene. It really touched me and moved me, especially the girl who played the lost sheep. You are in my prayers, every one of you. God bless.
