Mary Did You Know
Do you know?
When I think of Christmas, I think of hope. I think of love. I think of giving. I think of joy. I think of purpose.
One of my favorite Christmas songs is Mary Did You Know. I really like the version by Pentatonix.
I get the privilege of doing life with moms who sometimes are living in generational hardships. This song reminds me that their children, the very ones they hold in their arms, can be the generation that breaks the strongholds.
To me, Mary Did You Know is a song of hope. Jesus came from Heaven to earth to pay my debt so that I may have life. In Him I place my hope, not a wish, but a confident expectation of His promises.
It is a song of love. Jesus left Heaven to come to earth to redeem me is an uncomprehending love, if I seek to understand with my finite mind.
It is a song of giving. Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice, His life, so that I might live. This very thought leaves me in awe.
It is a song of joy. You know, not the happiness that is based on circumstances, but that joy that the world can’t take away. I have made my share of mistakes. I was a teen mom, but when I think God still chooses to use me in His kingdom building. That is joy!
It is a song of purpose. Jesus came to earth from Heaven, knowing what He must do and He still said yes.
So, whenever I hear this song, I am reminded of the season, but also filled with hope for everyday living. It gives me fresh eyes to look at the children in my life and know that God loves them. I am renewed as I ponder that I am nurturing a servant of God for whom He has great purpose.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?
Mary did you know.. Mary did you know
The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am.
Today’s story is by Barbara Scorza, and we’ve linked to her favorite version of this song below.
